The Akkadians were very similar to the Sumerians. The Akkadians lived in large cities called "city-states." Each city-state had its own laws and its own rulers. The city-states of the Akkadian Empire fought each other often.
The Akkadians lived north of the Sumerians, so the two civilizations were far enough away to have different languages.
Sargon of Akkad
Sargon of Akkad was the greatest ruler of the Akkadian Empire. He defended Akkad, his city-state, from powerful enemies and earned the title "Sargon the Great."
